Hive Manipulation Cloth – Beekeeping Inspection Cover / Hive Blanket
Hive Manipulation Cloth / Hive Blanket
A hive manipulation cloth is a practical beekeeping tool used during hive inspections to help keep colonies calm while frames are being examined.
The cloth is placed over the top bars of the hive and gradually folded back as each frame is removed. This allows the beekeeper to expose only the section of the hive being worked, keeping the rest of the colony covered.
By reducing light and airflow into the hive, a manipulation cloth helps reduce the number of bees flying up during inspections and helps maintain warmth inside the hive while it is open.
This simple tool is particularly useful when performing longer inspections, honey harvesting, or demonstrations, where the hive may remain open for extended periods.
Key Benefits
• Helps keep bees calmer during hive inspections
• Allows frames to be exposed one section at a time
• Reduces bees flying up while working the hive
• Helps retain heat inside the colony when the hive is open
• Useful for routine inspections, honey harvest and training demonstrations
Typical Use
Place the cloth across the top bars of the hive and fold it back gradually as you inspect each frame. This keeps most of the colony covered while you work.
Suitable for use with Langstroth, National and other standard frame hives.
