Thin, unwired British beeswax foundation specially produced for cut-comb honey.

This Premier-grade thin foundation is designed for use in British Standard National shallow (super) frames when producing cut-comb honey. Because the finished comb is cut directly from the frame and the wax is typically eaten along with the honey, a thin, good-quality foundation is particularly important.

Made from British Beeswax

Unlike foundation manufactured from imported wax, this Premier Thin foundation is made using British beeswax, sourced and processed by an established UK foundation manufacturer Thorne.

The manufacturer has produced and supplied its Premier-grade foundation since the 1990s and has advised us that it has experienced no issues of concern with the product during that time.

How is the beeswax processed?

The beeswax is processed using sedimentation to remove dirt and other physical particles before being made into foundation.

Importantly, the wax is not subjected to additional processing simply to artificially standardise its natural colour. As a natural product, the appearance and shade of beeswax can therefore vary slightly between batches.

The manufacturer's experienced wax-production team also inspects the wax before processing. Wax would be rejected if its appearance or smell gave them cause for concern.

Why use thin foundation for cut comb?

Standard beeswax foundation is ideal for many applications, but when the comb itself is going to be eaten, thinner foundation produces a much more pleasant finished product.

This foundation provides the bees with a natural beeswax worker-cell base from which to draw their comb, while minimising the amount of foundation present in each finished portion of cut comb.

A note about natural beeswax

Beeswax is a natural agricultural product produced inside honey-bee colonies. As with other natural hive products, it would not be appropriate to claim that beeswax is guaranteed to contain absolutely no trace of any possible environmental or agricultural residue unless a particular batch has been subjected to testing specifically capable of establishing this.

What we can confirm is that this Premier Thin foundation is manufactured from British beeswax, physical contamination is removed during processing by sedimentation, and the wax is inspected by the manufacturer's experienced wax-production team before being processed.
