Cleaning & Sterilising

Immersion Cleaning

Submerge in a tank with a solution of water and caustic potash (potassium hydroxide) at 5% concentration. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry fully.

Ensure proper ventilation to avoid inhalation of fumes.
Ensure you follow safety guidance on the product labelling.
Do not allow temperatures to exceed 80’c.
The fastener clips should be removed prior to immersion, then reinstalled after cleaning.

Alternative Cleaning

Wash with a bleach (chlorine) and water solution at a ratio of 1:10. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry fully.

Ensure proper ventilation to avoid inhalation of fumes.
Ensure you follow safety guidance on the product labelling.
Do not allow temperatures to exceed 80’c.
The fastener clips should be removed prior to immersion, then reinstalled after cleaning.

Steam Cleaning

The temperature tolerance of the polypropylene is 80’c, so steam cleaning is not recommended.

incredible insulation

Awesome hives, i under brooded 8 hives in mid march, 4 are wooden langstroths, 4 are Anel hives, 3 nuc's with extension boxes 1, 6 frame nuc went into the anel hives, 2 of the wooden hives have queens of the same year as the overwintered nuc's other 2 are a year older, i went in 7th of april for inspection, not one of the wooden hives has begun to draw out the bottom brood boxes despite 3 being boiling strong, the three extended nucs in Anel hives however are finnishing off drawing out the under brooded boxes, the 6 frame nuc about to begin having finnished drawing out the top box, vey impressed with the clearly superior insulation. only very minor issue noticed is the little gridded removable entrance reducer does knock off some pollen from heavily laden foragers so have removed them for now until and if needed.

Excellent Hives

I have three of these and the bees have done really well in them this year. They seem really solid and are well insulated. Very easy to clip together and seal up if you need to move a colony.
