Jersey have found to date that this Trappit lure is one of the most effective lure for asian hornets and wasps as it does not attract honeybees and can be used in Spring and Autumn too.
The Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina), is an aggressive predator of beneficial insects including honeybees. It has extended its geographical range from Asia to mainland Europe following an accidental introduction into France. It is now also present in Spain, Majorca, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland. Adult hornets are highly mobile, the rate of spread across France was approximately 60-100 km/year. In September 2016 Asian hornet was confirmed for the first time in the UK, but it is still not clear whether it is established or not. It is vital that beekeepers monitor for the presence of the hornet in their area - source National Bee Unit.
Very effective lure. I put some Trappit and for comparison lemonade and jam in two identical traps. Trappit won hands down, attracting several wasps and four hornets in one day, compared to flies and one wasp in the other trap
I bought 1litre bottle of trappit as had a wasp problem in the apiary cut the top of lemonade bottles and inverted them into the bottle put the trappit in with water went back next day they were all full and the was problem has eased it is brilliant stuff no bees just wasp and hornets will order again soon
I wasn’t too sure on this but the the traps are easy to use and the trappit liquid seems to work well on wasps, I have added some apple juice to give it another smell,in South Norfolk wasps are a big problem this year
I tested Trappot side by side (1 metre apart) with another ‘leading’ wasp / hornet attractant.
After 5 days 6 queen wasps had been caught in the trap using Trappit (April 2025) versus none in the trap with the other brand.
Enough said - worked incredibly well!!
