Asian Hornet Cone Trap by Anel

Designed for making your own DIY traps

Perfect for making your own inexpensive Asian Hornet traps

How to use:

Fit the plastic cone trap to a sealed box or container to catch Asian Hornets

You can add a piece of queen excluder material to the box to enable non target species to escape (e.g. honeybees) whilst keeping the hornets trapped in

Entrance hole too large

The entrance hole is too large and allows bycatch including European Hornet (Vespa Crabro), Bumblebees, some Moths etc.

I suggest glueing a cap from eg a sauce bottle and drilling with the correct size of drill 7.8mm is recommended for Vespa Velutina; 8.6mm admits Vespa Crabro.
So 8mm should be a suitable hole size.

Too Big

The hole in the end is too big and will allow almost everything in including Bumblebees and European Hornets. There are rows of slots all down the length of the cone but these are too small to allow anything out. The actual cone is a hard brittle type plastic so I’m not sure you could drill in to it to secure it to anything like a box to make the trap. It’s going to take some working out as to how to make a trap with these. They were quite cheap so worth having a go with.

Great value for money

So easy to make an Asian hornet trap using these inserts. Use a plastic box or even a bucket. So much cheaper than the rectangular entrance inserts. Wish I had seen these sooner. Will be ordering more the next time I place an order.
As always delivery was extremely quick and efficient
