Painting with Masonry paint on the outside is advisable to prolong life expectancy of the hive.
National Polystyrene Hive Parts manufactured in Denmark by Swienty. Excellent quality and 100% compatible with timber national hives and other poly hives. Polystyrene is 45mm thick / density 100g/litre.
Really easy to assemble.
It also took paint really well.

Fantastic service on getting the brood boxes (and frames too). What a crazy year 2023 is turning out to be.
The Swienty boxes have well documented problems. They are not truely a bottom bee space design.
My solution is to convert them to top bee space. Practical for my small establishment of 12 colonies + Nucs.
Probably not practical if you're doing more than that.
