Why protein matters

Pollen is the honeybee colony's natural source of protein and provides important nutrients required for brood rearing and the development of young bees.

At certain times of year, however, the quantity or variety of pollen being brought into the hive can become limited. Candipolline Gold provides a convenient supplementary source of protein and carbohydrates for use when natural pollen intake is poor.

This can be particularly useful during autumn preparation, when colonies are producing the bees that will make up their winter population, as well as during spring build-up and other periods of limited pollen forage.

What is Candipolline Gold?

Manufactured in Italy by Enolapi, Candipolline Gold is a ready-to-use bee feed combining beet sugar and sugar syrup with additional protein sources and bee pollen.

The bee pollen is gamma sterilised during manufacture. The formulation also contains caseinate and albumin as additional protein sources.

When should I feed Candipolline Gold?

Candipolline Gold can be used when colonies would benefit from supplementary protein because natural pollen intake is poor.

In autumn, carbohydrate feeding with syrup or fondant is generally concerned with providing energy and winter stores. Candipolline Gold serves a different purpose: it provides supplementary protein as well as carbohydrates.

It can therefore be useful where autumn pollen forage is limited and colonies are still rearing brood and developing their winter population.

It is also useful during spring build-up, periods of poor weather or forage availability, and for colonies experiencing limited pollen intake.

Protein supplementation isn't a replacement for good natural pollen forage. If your colonies are bringing in plentiful, varied pollen, supplementary protein feeding may not be necessary.

How to feed

Make an opening in the pouch and place it directly above the frames or over the feeder hole in the crown board, allowing the bees access to the feed. This follows Enolapi's recommended method of use.

Composition

Sugar (beet sucrose), sugar syrup, beekeeping by-products (pollen), caseinate, albumin and glycerol. Contains 3% pollen = 30 grams x 1kg

Additive: Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid/E300) – 400 IU/kg.
