No. 1A Candle Wick – 5 Metres | Beeswax Candle Making Wick

A high-quality No. 1A candle wick, supplied in a convenient 5 metre length for candle making.

This wick is ideal for beeswax candle making and can be cut to the required length for your individual candles. The manufacturer's Bleached Square™ wick range was originally developed specifically for beeswax candles and is particularly well suited to waxes that are highly viscous when molten, including beeswax and vegetable waxes.

The square wick construction is engineered to curl as it burns, helping to minimise carbon build-up and improve burning characteristics. The wick is constructed from 100% natural fibres and is finished with chemical treatments designed to improve its burn qualities.

Is No. 1A Wick Suitable for Beeswax Candles?

Yes. The manufacturer's Bleached Square™ wick range was originally designed for beeswax candles.

Beeswax has a relatively high viscosity when molten, and this wick construction is specifically described by the manufacturer as an excellent choice for highly viscous waxes such as beeswax and vegetable wax. This makes it particularly useful for beekeepers looking to turn beeswax recovered from their own hives into handmade beeswax candles.

What Size Candle Is No. 1A Wick Suitable For?

The correct wick size depends on much more than the diameter of the candle. Wax formulation, candle shape, fragrance, colourants and other additives can all change how a wick performs.

Use in a solid beeswax candle with a diameter of 0.75", or a rolled candle up to 1.5".

If you already have a proven candle recipe using No. 1A wick, this 5 metre length provides a convenient way of producing multiple candles. For a new candle design, we strongly recommend making and burn-testing a sample first.

Can I Use No. 1A Wick With Other Waxes?

The manufacturer's Bleached Square wick range can be used with different candle systems and is particularly recommended for beeswax and vegetable waxes.

The finished candle should always be tested when changing wax type or formulation.

Why Is Burn Testing Important?

There isn't a universal wick size that will perform identically in every candle.

Performance can be affected by:

  • Type and formulation of wax
  • Diameter and shape of the candle
  • Fragrance oils
  • Dyes and colourants
  • Other wax additives
  • Candle mould or container
  • Wick preparation and finished length

The manufacturer's wick charts are explicitly intended as a selection guide rather than a guarantee. Final wick selection should be confirmed by testing the finished candle.

How Much Wick Do I Receive?

You will receive 5 metres of No. 1A candle wick.

Simply cut the wick to the required length for your candle mould or container, allowing sufficient additional length for your chosen candle-making method.

Is This an Untreated Natural Wick?

No. Although the wick is constructed from 100% natural fibres, the manufacturer states that it is finished with chemical treatments to improve its burn qualities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is No. 1A wick suitable for beeswax?
Yes. The Bleached Square wick range was originally developed for beeswax candles and is particularly suitable for highly viscous molten waxes.

Can I use it for vegetable wax candles?
Yes. Vegetable wax is specifically identified by the manufacturer as a suitable application for this type of wick.

How much wick do I receive?
This product contains 5 metres of continuous No. 1A wick, which can be cut into individual lengths as required.

What diameter candle should I use it for?
Wick selection depends on the complete candle system rather than diameter alone. The supplied manufacturer's chart does not specifically identify the 1A designation, so we recommend using your existing candle recipe or carrying out burn tests before producing candles in quantity.

Why does the wick curl when burning?
The manufacturer deliberately engineers the wick to curl during burning. This helps to minimise carbon build-up.

Do I need to test my finished candles?
Yes. The manufacturer strongly recommends testing because different waxes, additives and formulations can change wick performance.

Important Candle-Making Information
