No. 3 Candle Wick – 5 Metres | Beeswax Candle Making Wick

A high-quality No. 3 candle wick, supplied in a convenient 5 metre length and particularly well suited to beeswax candle making.

This Bleached Square™ Wick range was originally developed specifically for beeswax candles and is designed to perform particularly well with waxes that have a high viscosity when molten, including beeswax and vegetable waxes.

Made from 100% natural fibres, the wick is finished with chemical treatments designed to improve its burning characteristics. Its construction is engineered to curl while burning, helping to minimise carbon build-up.

What Size Candle Is No. 3 Wick Suitable For?

According to the manufacturer's wick selection guide, No. 3 Bleached Square Wick produces an indicative wax pool diameter of approximately 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) and is categorised for use with large container candles and large pillar candles.

This wick is recommended for use with candles with a diameter of approximately 1.25" (31.8mm).

This should be used as a starting point rather than a guaranteed candle diameter. Wax type, additives and the overall candle design can all affect wick performance, so finished candles should always be burn tested.

No. 3 Wick Technical Information

Manufacturer's specification No. 3 Bleached Square Wick
Indicative flame height 4.52 cm (1.78")
Rate of consumption 6.59 g/hour (0.23 oz/hour)
Wax pool diameter 5.46 cm (2.15")
Total number of ends 60

These figures are taken from the manufacturer's technical rate chart and should be treated as reference data rather than guaranteed performance in every candle.

Is No. 3 Wick Suitable for Beeswax Candles?

Yes. The Bleached Square Wick range was originally designed specifically for beeswax candles.

Its construction makes it an excellent choice for waxes that are highly viscous when molten, with the manufacturer specifically identifying beeswax and vegetable wax.

This makes No. 3 wick particularly useful for beekeepers and candle makers looking to turn beeswax into handmade candles.

Can I Use No. 3 Wick With Vegetable Wax?

Yes. Although originally developed for beeswax candles, Bleached Square Wick is now used in a variety of candle systems. The manufacturer specifically recommends it as an excellent choice for beeswax and vegetable waxes.

Why Does the Wick Curl When It Burns?

The wick is deliberately engineered to curl while burning. This characteristic is designed to help minimise carbon build-up and forms part of the wick's intended burning behaviour.

How Much Wick Will I Receive?

You will receive 5 metres of No. 3 candle wick, allowing you to cut individual pieces to suit your candle moulds or containers.

Do I Need to Burn Test My Candles?

Yes. Burn testing is essential when selecting a candle wick.

The manufacturer's wick sizing information is intended as a guide rather than a guarantee. Candle performance can vary according to factors including:

  • Wax type and formulation
  • Candle diameter and shape
  • Fragrances
  • Colourants
  • Other wax additives
  • Container or mould
  • Overall candle formulation

The manufacturer recommends confirming the final wick selection by testing the actual finished candle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is No. 3 wick suitable for beeswax?
Yes. Bleached Square Wick was originally designed for beeswax candles and is particularly suitable for highly viscous molten waxes.

What size candle is No. 3 wick suitable for?
The manufacturer's guide categorises No. 3 for large container and pillar candles and gives an indicative wax pool diameter of approximately 5.5 cm (2.2"). We recommend using for candles with a diameter of 1.25" (31.8mm). This is a guide only, and suitability should be confirmed through burn testing.

Can I use No. 3 wick with vegetable wax?
Yes. Vegetable wax is specifically identified by the manufacturer as suitable for this type of wick.

Is this a natural candle wick?
The wick is constructed from 100% natural fibres. However, it is finished with chemical treatments to improve its burn qualities, so it should not be described as untreated or chemical-free.

Does the wick need trimming?
Normal candle-making and candle-use practices should still be followed. The wick is engineered to curl while burning to help minimise carbon build-up, but this does not remove the need to monitor and test the finished candle.

Why do I need to test the finished candle?
Different waxes, additives and candle formulations can significantly affect wick performance. The manufacturer's technical figures are therefore intended to assist with wick selection rather than guarantee a particular result.

Important Candle-Making Information

Wick recommendations and technical figures should always be treated as a starting point. Always carry out appropriate burn testing on the complete finished candle before producing candles in quantity or offering them for sale.
