Fantastic item

Fantastic bee hive roof. Simple and do the job. Is protecting my bee hive perfectly. I used to have a gable roof which was pretty but useless. This one does the job. Thank you!

Solves two problems for us

A lot of our hives have very deep, heavy wooden roofs, great for withstanding winter storms but ‘heavy man’. Others have deep roofs made from 50mm aluminium skinned insulation which this winter, for some reason, birds have begun pecking - though never before. These metal roofs, collected in store (worth a visit as there’s a good selection of genuinely useful items there and you always get a great welcome!) seem well made and of good thickness so we’ve cut 50mm slabs of high quality insulation to slot inside which still leaves a good overhang and sits directly on the crownboard. Because they’re lightweight we strap or weigh the roofs down (three seed trays on top supply a decent weight and keep the seedlings from getting waterlogged on the ground) and the insulation will help keep the hives cooler in the summer sun too - we do get sun in mid-Wales. We do a lot of black queen breeding here each year so might cut our old wooden roofs down to make two nuc covers and then equip all our standard colonies with these, they’ll save a lot of backache over the course of a year!

Great item

Was a bit confused when I bought as I thought I'd have to insert my own wooden frame but on contacting Gruff and his wife they soon sorted me out and I'm really pleased with my new roof.
Great item at a great price with great customer service. Thanks

Good value for money roofing

This European style metal roof appeared a good bee shed stand-in. Pleasantly however, it's much deeper, sturdier and well constructed than the photo conveys or might be expected at the price. It is not for every situation, but it is very good value indeed and to be recommended.
