OUR BUCKFAST BEES:
We make these nucs ourselves at Gwenyn Gruffydd. We source the best queens from some of the best Queen breeders in the UK and EU. They're the same queens we use in our own production hives. Many other bee farmers chose these specific lines for their operation too.
The nucs we sell are exactly the same nucs we use in our honey farm.
They are well adapted for UK and Welsh climates! Low in swarming (*low..not won't swarm!), easy to handle, gentle on the frames and excellent honey producers.
The colony is headed up with a 2025 bred Buckfast Queen. They are good to handle, gentle, quiet bees, and suitable for beginners and the experienced beekeepers. All our bees will be fully inspected and health checked by us before they leave the farm.
We have achieved our accreditation to the DASH scheme; Disease Accreditation Scheme for Honeybees, this is a an accreditation set up between the NBU (National Bee Unit, APHA (Animal and Plant Advisory Unit)) and the BFA (Bee Farmers Association).

Collection is always the preferred and better option for you nuc and is far less stressful on them, however we can organise delivery for you if you prefer. Collection from Gwenyn Gruffydd SA32 8SE.

Delivery Cost to UK Mainland Address is - £30** per Nuc (Delivery before 1pm*)

Our first point of contact will be via email so please be sure to enter a valid email address. Due to the busy season, we allocate every Tuesday exclusively for dispatching nucs for Wednesday deliveries only. This schedule enables us to manage the complex logistics involved in preparing and dispatching nucs.
*Certain postcodes are excluded from the 1pm guarantees. Prices quoted are for UK only - we do not post overseas or to Ireland.
The bees arrived safely, are very calm to handle and the queen is already laying well. I was a little disappointed by the actual number of bees. I have bought other nucs before where each frame was fully covered, this wasn’t the case.

I purchased a new season 5 frame national nucleus on 15th May and I am very please with what I received, upon arrival I was pleased to see my nuc in a very strong travel box secured with screws and well ventilated. bees where well provisioned with stores and transitioned to there new hive very well. Two weeks have passed since receiving my bees and they have gone from strength to strength, I am delighted with my bees and I will 100% buy more bees from Gruff in the future. I have made several other purchases previously and have always been treated promptly and with great customer care. I would highly recommend (Gwenyn Gruffydd) for beekeeping supplies and or advise.

Bought a 5 frame Nuc which was delivered 2 days after posting. I expected the bees to be quite agitated but was pleasantly surprised when I opened up the front vent of the nuc when in position so that they could orientate. The bees were slow to emerge & well tempered. Transferred them the next day to the hive & the Queen & colony all looked very healthy. Good supply of stores noted & they have not touched the sugar syrup I placed in the hive when inspected 1 week after arrival. Very pleased & would definitely recommend.
