OUR WELSH BEES:

We have secured a supply of Welsh black bees from a very experienced local Beefarmer that farms and breeds Welsh Black bees.

They are locally adapted bees that mate naturally on the wing so we can’t guarantee they are 100% Welsh blacks as they mate with local drones - they are locally adapted so some may have a bit more yellow or ginger colour than we would like. 

The breeder does not import bees or queens so they are in our opinion the closest you can possibly get to true Welsh black bees without A.I. They are born and raised in Wales.

The breeder has been rearing bees for sale since the late 1970s. The bees are generally quiet on the comb and easy to handle, making them suitable for beginner beekeepers. They are also effective nectar gatherers, therefore also meeting the needs of larger honey producers.

It is for this reason we have decided to partner with this breeder and offer these nucs for sale from Gwenyn Gruffydd.

The 5 frame nuclei of bees reared in Wales on British Standard National self-spacing Hoffman frames (which can be used in WBC Hives).

The Bees

The bees have been Nosema and Varroa treated. The bees are also regularly inspected by FERA (Bee Inspectors).

The breeder is attempting to breed bees which survive with minimal treatment for Varroa, with some indications of success. The bees we supply as nuclei are reared as part of the breeders ongoing programme.  

We have achieved our accreditation to the DASH scheme; Disease Accreditation Scheme for Honeybees, this is a an accreditation set up between the NBU (National Bee Unit, APHA (Animal and Plant Advisory Unit)) and the BFA (Bee Farmers Association).

Collection Details

Collection is always the preferred and better option for you nuc and is far less stressful on them, however we can organise delivery for you if you prefer.

The bees for sale will be sent out via Royal Mail Special Guaranteed Next Day Service and delivered on your chosen date. Once your order has been placed you will receive a confirmation email of your order and payment.
